A perfect world is realistic – Stavanger (NO) @ Kapittel
Sep 22 @ 13:00 – 14:00

En perfekt verden er realistisk

We live in a time of unprecedented upheaval, with questions about the future, society, work, happiness, family and money, and yet no political party of the right or left is providing us with answers. Rutger Bregman, a bestselling Dutch historian, explains that it needn’t be this way. Bregman shows that we can construct a society with visionary ideas that are, in fact, wholly implementable. Every milestone of civilization – from the end of slavery to the beginning of democracy – was once considered a utopian fantasy. New utopian ideas such as universal basic income and a 15-hour work week can become reality in our lifetime.

Amending the Constitution with a UBI Campaign Petition – Seoul (Korea) @ Gagnam Subway Exit
Sep 23 @ 14:00 – 16:00

Basic Income Korean Network (BIKN) and other UBI supporters will initiate “Amending the Constitution with a UBI” Campaign Petition on 21st September.

President Moon Jae-In promised some amendments to the South Korea’s Constitution in order to improve the devolution of Korean power and strengthen guarantee human rights, after he won the presidential election in May 2017 to replace the impeached one. The South Korea Parliament has been preparing a package of Constitutional amendments. We believe that the constitutional referendum will be held on 13 June 2018.

BIKN has proposed joint petition to all the basic income supporters in South Korea from June to August this year. And we made 온국민기본소득운동본부 (meaning “Basic Income for All” Campaign Petition Headquarters) as an organization of campaign initiators. Now, we are preparing some campaign petition materials, including about 300 street banners, lots of pamphlets and some pickets.

We will run the “Amending the Constitution with a UBI” Campaign Petition from September to December this year. In 10th International Basic Income Week, there will be two street campaign days, Sep. 21st and 23rd in Seoul, Capital of South Korea. And we are going to use social media campaign and lots of street banners are also going to be hung out at various places across the country during this period.

Sep. 23rd @ Gangnam Subway Exit, Seoul, Korea

“Basicincome” are we defending the same idea? -Brussels @ Université Saint-Louis
Sep 23 @ 09:30 – 13:30

The debate on Basic Income is getting more and more extensive every day, as well elsewhere as in Belgium.

But this project can only be realized in Belgium if it is carried by politicians from both communities.

That is why we organize on 23 September in Brussels a meeting of dialogues between Dutch-speaking and French-speaking people with a minimum of sympathy for universal Basic Income.

Each guest will have the opportunity to interact with a representative of the same political family of the other community.

  • The Liberal family will be represented by Nele Lijnen and Georges-Louis Bouchez.
  • The Christian-Democrat family will be represented by Sammy Mahdi and Joaquim Hernandez-Dispaux
  • The Socialist family will be represented by Yasmine Kerbache and……
  • The Greens family will be represented by Kristof Calvo et Philippe Lamberts.

The debates will take place on September 23rd from 9:30 to 13:30 at the Université Saint-Louis in Brussels. Languages: Dutch and French

Registration is free but to facilitate organization send us a short message (with your name and qualities) to: https://goo.gl/forms/64d2nhDwH0yFT2r63

For information: this initiative also marks the 10th International Week of Basic Income, which will take place worldwide from 18 September to 24 September 2017

17th BIEN Congress 2017 – Lisboa (Portugal) @ Lisbon School of Economics and Management
Sep 25 – Sep 27 all-day

The association Unconditional Basic Income – Portugal, in partnership with the Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society (CEPS), at the University of Minho, the Centre for Research in European, Economic, Financial and Tax Law (CIDEEFF),  the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG), both at the University of Lisbon, the Portuguese Centre for Global History, at the New University of Lisbon, the party People, Animals, Nature (PAN), and Unconditional Basic Income Europe (UBIE), will organize the 17th  BIEN Congress, from September 25 to 27, 2017.

Today basic income attracts the public’s attention as a potentially fair and realistic public policy. We can see this attention as important political parties in Europe have adopted the unconditional basic income as a policy objective. Our 2017 congress will discuss the different aspects of the politics of a basic income under the general theme: Implementing a Basic Income.
