17th BIEN Congress 2017 – Lisboa (Portugal) @ Lisbon School of Economics and Management
Sep 25 – Sep 27 all-day

The association Unconditional Basic Income – Portugal, in partnership with the Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society (CEPS), at the University of Minho, the Centre for Research in European, Economic, Financial and Tax Law (CIDEEFF),  the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG), both at the University of Lisbon, the Portuguese Centre for Global History, at the New University of Lisbon, the party People, Animals, Nature (PAN), and Unconditional Basic Income Europe (UBIE), will organize the 17th  BIEN Congress, from September 25 to 27, 2017.

Today basic income attracts the public’s attention as a potentially fair and realistic public policy. We can see this attention as important political parties in Europe have adopted the unconditional basic income as a policy objective. Our 2017 congress will discuss the different aspects of the politics of a basic income under the general theme: Implementing a Basic Income.

Thema-avond: Basisinkomen @ Reigers Inn
Sep 18 @ 20:00 – 22:00

Basic Income Week event in Southend on Sea @ The Olde Trout Tavern
Sep 23 @ 18:30 – 20:30

Basic Income: a fairer world is possible

There are many ways to implement Basic Income, but the ultimate intent is that every citizen receives a payment – from cradle to grave, whether working or not. It sounds Utopian and radical, but it IS entirely achievable.

Come along to learn more about Basic Income and hear about trials that have taken place around the world.

We’ll then have a discussion about what we can do at a local level, and how we could influence government policy.

We’re hosting an event on Sunday 23 September at The Olde Trout Tavern in Southend on Sea. (Upstairs, from 6.30pm, free.)  if you want to hang around afterwards, there’s a quiz at the pub from 8.30.

There’ll be an overview of UBI and its history, and a few case studies. We’ll then have a conversation about what a UBI could mean to us personally, and to our communities, and how we could make it a reality.
